Domaine Wilfrid Rousse
Located on the right bank of the Vienne River, near Chinon, Domaine Wilfrid Rousse is a family-run organic estate rooted in the village of Savigny-en-Véron, in the heart of the Loire Valley. Founded in 1987 by Wilfrid Rousse, the domaine began with just one hectare and has grown steadily to its current 20 hectares, primarily planted with Cabernet Franc, along with a small parcel of Chenin Blanc.
The vineyards are spread across diverse terroirs: sandy-gravel soils in Savigny for fruit-driven wines, clay-limestone in Beaumont for more structured reds, and clay-silica in Chinon for elegance and balance. Certified organic, the estate is committed to biodiversity and environmental sustainability, with no use of herbicides or synthetic chemicals.
Each plot is vinified separately using indigenous yeasts, with gentle extractions and aging in oak barrels or demi-muids for 12 to 18 months. No fining or filtration is used, allowing for pure, authentic expressions of the grape and terroir.
Wilfrid oversees both vineyard work and winemaking, while his wife Annie manages sales and exports. Together, they produce expressive, honest Chinon wines that reflect a deep respect for the land and the traditions of the region.
