Domaine Adrien Berlioz
Established in 2006 in the village of Chignin, at the heart of Savoie’s wine country, Adrien Berlioz represents a new generation of committed winemakers both heirs to tradition and bold innovators. A cousin of Gilles Berlioz, a well-known figure in natural winemaking, Adrien has carved out his own path from the very beginning. Today, he farms a compact 5.3-hectare estate, working exclusively with steep, often vertiginous hillside vineyards, where every action carries meaning.
His viticulture is fully organic and uncompromising. The soils are hand-hoed and naturally grassed to encourage microbial life and help the vines send their roots deep into the bedrock. Adrien’s philosophy is simple: grow healthy, ripe, balanced grapes because great wines always start in the vineyard, not in the cellar.
In the winery, the approach is just as clear: “Less is more.” Grapes are harvested at full maturity and gently pressed. The musts are left to ferment on their own, with no additives whatsoever. Native yeasts conduct the fermentation, and malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. Ageing is tailored to each wine, in either tank or demi-muids, always with a light touch the aim being not to shape the wine, but to respectfully guide its expression.
